Focused on the Customer: Andrew Hass
By Janell Bauer
It’s wonderful equipment and it keeps you alive! – Accountant Andrew Hass
Certified Public Accountant Andrew Hass has led an active and powerful life. His drive and passion for hard work is clear—he had his own accounting business for forty-years in a high-rise in San Francisco and he is a seasoned traveler. When Hass was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration he needed a solution that would allow him to maintain his active and independent life-style.
Hass had Macular degeneration in one eye for six years before it hit his other eye. Andrew Hass said, "the type of work that I’d been doing, I could no longer do. I could not audit a set of books for a company, I could not really enter things easily into a computer for a tax return…things became much slower. Reading took much more time."
It seemed Hass was facing the end of his independent working life, until he found Telesensory’s Genie Pro and MiniViewer.
Hass purchased Telesensory’s Genie Pro so he could continue his accounting work. Today he uses the Genie Pro for many different work and personal tasks, "I use video magnifiers for reading letters, articles in magazines, small parts of books and for addressing envelopes."
Andrew Hass also uses his Genie Pro to continue his accounting work. He reads numbers under the video magnifier even when they come from several different sources; he then uses the split screen to transfer numbers into a spreadsheet. Hass can still get things ready for processing tax returns and statements. After finding the video magnifiers he said, "I can still do what I want to do!"
To help read independently while traveling, Andrew Hass turned to Telesensory’s MiniViewer. "[Visual independence] has been very important to me, and fortunately, I have found the equipment that enables me to do many things that I’ve wanted to do."
Hass uses his CCTV for more than work and reading. When he moved to a new home with a garden it became difficult to see the plant details—which he enjoyed before. Now, the video magnifier can help. "If I want to look at the flower, then I pick it and bring it in and look at it on my machine… I’ve had a lot of fun the past two years with all the flowers I’ve been able to grow, and the machine has helped me understand them," Hass said. |
